Why Doesn't God Answer Our Prayers?
I used to get miserable or depressed when something bad happened. I used to wonder why God didn’t answer my prayers, or why God never listened to me, or even talk back to me or how he could let something bad happen.
Nobody could accuse me of not having faith. I always believed in God even as a child. He was as real to me as you and I are. I went to church and did everything I needed to do in my Catholic faith to be a diligently practicing Catholic. So, you can say I had “faith” in Him. But God didn’t seem to be answering my prayers, and sometimes I felt abandoned. Where was He? And where was the promise that “faith the size of a mustard seed could move mountains?”
I found the answer one day in a book written by Jerry Savelle titled If Satan Can’t Steal Your Joy, He Can’t Keep Your Goods. I suddenly realized what I was doing wrong. I thought I had faith, but I had missed out on a big component of it—trust! Faith and trust go hand-in-hand. In fact, faith would not be faith if you didn’t trust, would it? They are one and the same. So, I really can’t say I have faith in God if I dIdn’t trust Him. Once I knew the answer, it was like a new awakening. Suddenly, God didn’t seem so far away. Instead, I could feel Him and understand Him completely.
This is the problem that a lot of Christians have. They believe in God, but don’t know how to trust Him completely.
I am going to show you how I started trusting God completely and the every-day miracles I experience because of it. Yes, God does answer our prayers.
Satan tries to bring you down with lies and deception. He is the cause of our unhappiness, of our doubts in God, and our inability to trust Him completely. Do not give in to him. Instead, when things go wrong and you’re feeling down, remember the words in the title of that book—if Satan can’t steal my joy, he can’t keep it. It’s as simple as that. It’s what Jesus promised us—trust in Him and keep our focus on Him, and don’t let go. Be joyful even in the face of disaster. God is right there with you, if you want Him to be. All you have to do is ask.
One important lesson I learned from the book was that no matter what happens to bring you down, do not dwell in the misery. Instead, take joy in the truth that God will never, ever let you down. He is right there with you, if you want Him to be.

Yes, think of it as a rollercoaster ride. It’s scary, but fun, and you trust you are going to get to your destination in one piece. Riding through life holding on to God for dear life feels like it, but only better!
